Nicolet Search Team, Inc.

The Nicolet Search Team, Inc. is a Wisconsin based, Non-Profit, FEMA Type III Wilderness Search and Rescue Team serving all of Northeast Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. The Team's search mission history continues to grow, having participated in searches all over Northern Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and Minnesota. Team members are of all ages and gender, come from many different walks of life and live all over Wisconsin, but they all have one thing in common, the need to help others. Our latest search efforts occurred in June 2007, when we assisted in the search for a missing boy with Autism in the Wisconsin Rapids Area and a missing berry picker in Oconto County in September of 2007.

The Nicolet Search Team is an outgrowth of several years of work by many dedicated volunteers to provide trained searchers and search command staff in Northeast Wisconsin. The group began as a result of several lengthy searches conducted in Oconto County since 1995 and the lack of trained people to conduct those searches. For years, search were conducted by members of the the local EMS and Fire Departments, but by no one with dedicated and specific search and rescue training. So the Nicolet Search Team, Inc. was formed in March of 2002 to help fill that volunteer role.

Being a member of a search and rescue team is not a glorious or ego building occupation, but rather a somewhat thankless, dirty, sweaty job of searching for those who are unprepared to visit our wonderful area. Searches have entailed pouring rain in the middle of the night, wading through swamps in 80 degree temperatures, swatting at the bugs the whole time, looking for lost hunters ill prepared to spend the night in the woods or maybe the 2 year old who took a walk with his dog. And maybe, just maybe, someone will come up to you after it is all done, say "Thank You", and you will be ready to go again.

We would like to thank all of the spnosors and participants of the annual Nicolet Walk / Run around Maiden Lake. It is with your local and community support that allows out Team to function and be available when an emergency arises. Thank You again to all who helped up on a beautiful Saturday Morning.
